  • GAB says all Walker recall petitions to be posted online Monday

MADISON — The Government Accountability Board completed its scanning all petitions in the Walker recall effort Friday. They will be posted online for public viewing on Monday.

In total, G.A.B. staff scanned more than 152,300 petition pages for the Governor’s recall, of which approximately 71,000 were delivered earlier this week. The Board has not yet estimated the number of signatures on the petitions, as the signature review process is just beginning.

The G.A.B. is currently verifying the completeness and accuracy of scanned petition pages for Lt. Governor Kleefisch, and expects to complete that work sometime next week.

On Monday, copies of the Governor’s recall petitions will be posted online at http://gab.wi.gov for public viewing. Click the link “Recall Petitions Online” on the homepage. In Wisconsin, recall petitions are public records.

G.A.B. workers are now reviewing petition signatures for the four Senate recall petitions and the Governor’s recall petitions. Crews will be working from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays. You can watch a live stream of the process by CLICKING HERE.

Recall petition processing is happening at an undisclosed state facility in Madison. For security reasons, the location of the processing center is not being released until all the scanned petition pages have been verified for completeness and accuracy.

  • Gov. Walker responds to charges in John Doe investigation

WAUWATOSA — Gov. Scott Walker made his first comments about the secret John Doe investigation into his former and current staff Friday. He says he's confident his integrity will remain intact.

Two women on that staff were charged Thursday with engaging in political fundraising while at work. Darlene Wink was charged with two misdemeanors, accused of doing campaign work for Walker at her county job in 2009 when Walker was Milwaukee County Executive. Walker's Deputy Chief of Staff at the time, Kelly Rindfleisch, was charged with four felonies, accused of campaigning for a lieutenant governor candidate from her county office.

“I had an expressed and clear policy that county employees in my office and elsewhere were prohibited from using county resources and county time to be involved in political activities. it's a policy i expressed not only publically, i expressed repeatedly,” Walker said.

Gov. Walker says he is cooperating with the district attorney's office and cannot speak to many questions. When asked if he feels the investigation is targeting him, Walker said, “no.”

Two other former Walker associates were charged Jan. 5 with embezzling more than $60,000 from veterans and their families. Another man is charged with child enticement charges, evidence of which was allegedly discovered while investigating one of the others.
